At Les Amis we are frequently looking to recruit new staff for existing projects and new developments.
Professional qualifications are not normally required other than for a Management or Deputy Management role.
Instead we look for qualities such as common sense, respect for others, initiative, enthusiasm and last but not least, a sense of humour. Project Managers need a professional qualification in the field of social work, nursing or similar, relevant field related to social care.

To assist and support our residents we have a range of posts from weekend staff who work perhaps only 4 hours every other weekend through to full-time staff doing 35 hours a week. The range of house settings and ages and needs of the residents means that our staff team is diverse in the extreme and applications are welcomed from anybody who has an interest in and empathy with people with learning disabilities.

Due to the potential of communication difficulties with at least some of our residents, a good command of the English language is a necessity. It is to be noted that support at Les Amis includes sleep-in duties, shift work and unsocial hours, including weekends.

Following a successful ‘pilot’ programme launched in early 2007, a distance learning ASET qualification Level 4 "Caring for People with Learning Disabilities" has been adopted, and is specifically designed for those working in our specialised field. This qualification is equivalent to an NVQ level 3! To date 43 staff have either passed or in the process of taking the course. This is now an on-going programme of which we are proud.

We provide an extensive programme of 'in-house' training. A resource facility and training room have been established within the main building at Five Oaks. Where such expertise is not currently available 'in-house', external trainers are brought in. All our staff undertake a range of mandatory training courses (during their probationary period wherever possible) with refreshers every 3 years. These include Food Hygiene, First Aid, Manual Handling, Sexual Health & Relationships, Duty of Care & Accountability, Vulnerable Adults, Health & Safety, Infection Control, Risk Assessment and a basic understanding of Challenging Behaviour.

We also also offer specialist training relevant to the particular challenges our staff are involved in, techniques in working with those with profound physical disabilities, advanced practice in challenging behaviour, and for those in our children's respite service, a whole range of training to meet legal requirements in this area, including Child Protection.
